Samer Abdelnour has balanced his academic interests with applied research and activism. He has worked with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and now conducts research to inform interventions for the demobilization of fighters and marginalized communities in Sudan. Currently he is a PhD candidate at the London School of Economics, an affiliate of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University in Toronto, and a founding member of Al-Shabaka, the Palestinian Policy Network. |

Andrea Becker is the director of advocacy for the international organization ‘Medical Aid for Palestine’ who deliver basic health and medical care to Palestinian refugees and strive to establish a permanent medical infrastructure in Palestinian communities. She is an outspoken voice for Palestinian rights and has published articles in international newspapers on this topic. |

Her work as director of Girls & Football SA makes her an ideal candidate for the Award for Humanity. |

Darrin Bast has been fulfilling a dream, a mission if you like, to pay back to the community that has helped his Mom through some difficult health times. To do this Darrin set up the Heart & Music Foundation which has raised enormous amounts of money for ovarian cancer research. It is amazing what one person can achieve when inspired. |

Catherine is an important member of the Euterpe Corporation which is a musical not-for-profit, charitable organization created to advance the understanding and appreciation of music and it’s affect on the human organism, with a particular focus on classical and jazz music. |
